The York Area Commit
tee is made up of a merry band of like-minded souls – despite adversity and economic downturn, we all want to raise as much money as possible for Sweet Charity and have fun while we’re doing it!
Building on the success of the previous year, the 2011 York Candy Ball, held at York Racecourse, featured entertainment along the lines of “Britain’s Got Talent”. Three song and dance routines were performed by young people from a local stage school, and once all the audience votes had been counted, the winners were announced and each act presented with a cash prize.
Money for Sweet Charity was raised in a variety of ways – including a raffle, heads and tails, safe-combination breaking and selling the table centrepieces – and all this, together with a sumptuous meal and dancing until the wee small hours to our band Mirage, made for a fun-filled evening, which was also enjoyed by one of our beneficiaries, pictured here with her carer and Sweet Charity Director-General Patrick Davis.
We are now in the throes of organising the 2012 York Candy Ball. We’re going for a complete change this time, and although we want to keep some of the entertainment as a surprise, we can promise that it will be an evening of fun, mystery and amazement!
