Renowned for their’ Candy Ball’, which has been running for over 50 years, the North West and Sheffield area committee are continually striving to improve on an event which has been described as ‘the highlight of the year’. Running alongside this excellent annual event are two more high-class fund raising ventures. Following closely on the heels of the Candy Ball (which is held in the prestigious Palace Hotel in Manchester each October) is a ‘Dog night’. Each year, attendees enjoy a three course dinner and wine at the Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium in Manchester. Also included in the cost is a full race-card which allows everyone to savour the atmosphere and (on a few occasions) win some money.
These two events have, this year, once again, been well supported and enjoyed by even more people than ever. The Candy Ball had an ‘Ice and Fire’ theme which was described as ‘spectacular’ by guests, plus singers, dancing and all the usual much anticipated raffles and draws.
The other key event in the calendar is the annual Golf day held just outside of Bradford at the Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel & Country Club. This well established day out is extremely well supported and most enjoyable for all involved. Next year (2011) it will be held on Thursday 9th June 2011
The hard working committee consists of around 16 volunteers, many of whom have served on it for over 10 years. Coupled with their experience, new members are being added regularly. This mix gives the NW and Sheffield branch an opportunity to embrace new and exciting ideas as well as the tried and tested ones which have proved so successful over the years.
Needless to say, anyone who is interested in joining them would enable them to go from strength to strength and achieve their goal of making even more money for our superb charity.
