How we help

We help people who work or have worked in the confectionery industry.  We help people who have been involved in retailing, wholesaling and manufacturing, where confectionery is a core business category.  This could include working in a corner shop, convenience store, CTN, forecourt, as well as a sweet shop, or working for a wholesaler or cash and carry who serves these retailers, as well as manufacturers who produce confectionery.

For people who meet our qualifying criteria for support, we can help in a range of different ways.  Here are a few facts and figures about the charity to show you some of the ways we have helped in the past year.  We also have some real stories to show how we have helped people in different circumstances.

How we help financially:

  • Over the past year our welfare officers have been able to make our beneficiaries better off by over £100,000, by visiting, assessing their situation and helping them claim all their state entitlements.
  • Where we identify that a couple are both entitled to disability benefits we can help them to increase their income by up to £16,000 (154% increase).
  • Over the last 5 years our beneficiaries have benefited from this work by a cumulative total of £2 million!
  • We have provided over 500 regular quarterly grants of up to £260 per quarter to those least well off.
  • We have provided tailored financial support to over 200 people for specific items such as disabled adaptations and essential household goods.
  • We liaise with other charities and organisations referring people to local services and sources of help.

How we help to ease isolation:

  • Our welfare officers have visited more than 1,200 people and, in addition, our volunteer visitors have made over 400 home visits.
  • We have regularly kept in touch with 1,400 friends and beneficiaries by sending them our quarterly newsletter.
  • We have sent Christmas and birthday gifts to over 1,300 beneficiaries.
  • We have organised 11 social gatherings and outings around the UK for our beneficiaries.
  • We have provided a friendly voice at the end of a phone to everyone who has needed us.
